Brief Brand History for Breguet:
In 1775, A.L. Breguet founded his company and soon became an official supplier to the French Royal family. He invents the first self-winding watch, first repeater, and first tourbillon. He utilized moon phase perpetual calendars, and with the help of Napoleon, he invented the hinged “half-hunter”. The company was resurrected in the 1980s by the owners of the Parisian Jewelers Chaumet. They later sold the company and after changing hands again the company was purchased by the Swatch Group. Today the company is overseen by Nicholas Hayek the Chairman of the Board of Swatch Group.
The company is producing Tourbillons in volume and the future is extremely bright.
Product Line Overview:
Known mostly for their “round” cases, the “Classique” and “Marine” lines are very popular as well as the all new and improved “Type XXI” series. And for the lady’s - the “Queen of Naples” has taken the watch world by storm. In 1999, the Swatch Group bought Breguet. At that time, many Breguet production pieces filtered into the grey market as prices crashed. Breguet was a close-out brand. Swatch then lowered the Retail Price and prices crashed even more. It took nearly 5 years for most of the remnants of that inventory to disappear.
