Brief Brand History for

The renowned fashion house Chanel is the legacy of the French fashion icon Coco Chanel, who founded the brand in 1910. She is arguably the most influential figure in the history of twentieth century fashion. The brand that bears her name still produces haute couture, fragrances, and accessories aimed primarily at women. In the late twentieth century, Chanel broke into the watch industry, establishing a watch division in 1987. In recent years, Chanel developed numerous new watch calibers that feature across several collections.

Product Line Overview

Although primarily known as a fashion house producing haute couture, jewelry, and fragrances, Chanel possesses impressive watchmaking expertise. Notably, Chanel has developed a number of movements, including the Calibers 1 through 5.

Easily the most popular watch collection from Chanel, the J12 includes cases and bracelets in highly resistant white or black ceramic. The use of ceramic in watches is infrequently seen due to the difficulty of manufacturing ceramic cases. The collection offers an array of impressive watches, including tourbillons and skeletonized movements. Many are set with precious stones such as diamonds and rubies.

First released in 1987, the Premiere is an octagonal ladies' watch inspired by the Place Vendome. The Boy-Friend Collection possesses similarly octagonal case shapes but is offered in unisex designs. Many of the straps in this collection are made of Chanel's signature quilted leather. The more feminine Code Coco Collection walks the line between wristwatch and jewelry piece. Available in a number of materials, the Code Coco possesses a highly distinctive design.

The Monsieur de Chanel, a watch collection designed for men, uses the in-house Chanel Caliber 1. The caliber features a jumping hour complication displayed at six o’clock and a retrograde minute indication. The Monsieur de Chanel is available in beige gold, white gold, and ceramic.
